Birmingham-Southern, Coastal Alabama partner to smooth transition for transfers

For Immediate Release
Jun. 27, 2019

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College and Coastal Alabama Community College (CACC) have signed an articulation agreement that will expedite the completion of a bachelor’s degree at BSC for Coastal Alabama students.

The agreement ensures that students who have earned associate’s degrees at CACC can seamlessly continue their education at BSC. The contract establishes that those who have earned an associate’s degree in arts and sciences will have fulfilled Birmingham-Southern’s general education requirements with the exception of a class in writing reinforcement and a capstone course.

“Articulation agreements make the transfer process more efficient and transparent. Coastal Alabama Community College students now can more easily transfer to BSC and complete their bachelors’ degree in our personalized academic environment,” BSC President Daniel B. Coleman said. “We look forward to welcoming Coastal Alabama graduates to BSC.”

Statistics show that nearly half of all college students complete at least some of their academic work at two-year colleges. Articulation agreements outline the course requirements for degrees and how credits will transfer.

"It is always exciting to enter into new articulation agreements with our four-year universities in the state, and this new agreement with Birmingham-Southern College opens even more doors for our students,” CACC Interim President Dr. Kemba Chambers said. “This transfer agreement is another example of how community colleges and four-year universities work together to ensure our students are prepared for success with as few obstacles as possible."

In recent years, BSC has completed articulation agreements with the following two-year colleges: Bevill State Community College, Calhoun Community College, Chattahoochee Valley Community College, Coastal Alabama Community College, Jefferson State Community College, Lawson State Community College, Northeast Alabama State Community College, Snead State Community College, and Wallace State Community College.
